Energy 2005 Conference Offsets Sources
Fuel Cell Energy, Inc. has donated emission
reductions resulting from the energy generation delivered by operation of the
company's Direct FuelCell® power plants. The reductions resulted from 2,217 MWh
of power generated at the company's Danbury and Torrington, CT locations.
Because of the DFC's® Ultra Clean renewable power production, this
resulted in reductions of SO2, NOx, PM10 and Hg.
Event Emission Offset Short Description
Instead of reselling emission reduction credits (ERCs), renewable energy
certificates (RECs), or allowances to sources of air pollution that will use
them to compensate for their pollutant emissions, emission reductions can be
retired without emitting any pollution. Once an allowance, REC or ERC is
retired, it can no longer be bought, sold, or used to offset pollution.
Purchasing and retiring ERCs or allowances reduces the amount of pollution that
is discharged to the atmosphere. Consumers, events and businesses can take
advantage of this concept and offset the emissions caused by energy use by
participating and acquiring donations or buying ERCs and then permanently
retiring them.

this purpose
